Poulo Condor Resort on Con Dao island masterfully balances luxury with authentic Vietnamese character. What immediately strikes you is the soul infused into every aspect of the property - this is far from a cookie-cutter resort experience. The reception area sets the tone perfectly, featuring carefully curated traditional Asian artwork adorning white walls, complemented by elegant dark wood furniture and comfortable chairs with yellow accent cushions. The welcome ritual, complete with iced tea and native almonds, demonstrates the staff's commitment to hospitality from the moment you arrive. The resort's crown jewel is undoubtedly its stunning infinity pool. Set against a dramatic backdrop of jungle-covered mountains, the multi-level pool design creates a serene oasis. The thoughtful layout includes comfortable seating areas and beautiful stone paving that perfectly complements the natural surroundings. Interestingly, the pool area maintains a warmer microclimate than the beach, making it an ideal retreat on breezy days. Accommodations don't disappoint, with spacious, well-designed rooms. The evening tea service delivered directly to your room adds a particularly charming touch that exemplifies the resort's attention to detail. The beach is a highlight - long and beautiful, offering unique opportunities for walks that can take you all the way to the airport fence for departures plane spotting. Speaking of the airport, despite being only 6 minutes away by car, its small ATR aircraft operations never disturb the resort's tranquility. While the food quality is good, the menu could benefit from featuring more local Vietnamese cuisine alongside its Western offerings. This would better cater to adventurous travelers eager to explore regional flavors. What truly sets Poulo Condor apart is how every element - from the decor to the service - reflects genuine care and thoughtfulness rather than corporate standardization.

We spent 7 nights here as the final leg of a 6 week Vietnam trip, just after the last of the windy season. I thought it was an extraordinary and highly memorable place. You are in a section of the island which has nothing else around - just jungly trees, no other houses, resorts, shacks. I adored being on a beautiful beach, which is about 1.5 miles long from end to end. As a keen slow runner, my morning jog on flat hard sand after sunrise was probably the best running experience of my life. Not a soul apart from the hotel’s beach cleaner’s and sometime groups of Con Dao long-tailed monkeys. OK there is rubbish on parts of the beach further along but the hotel can’t solve that and so just ignore it. My wife also loved doing the beach walk each morning. The hotel is set in extensive forested grounds with an amazing 33 metre pool and a tremendous backdrop of steep hills; probably the best natural setting of any hotel pool I can recall. Everything is very spread out quiet and low key. Not remotely buzzy. The people were lovely and attentive (like Thao in the restaurant for example, though it feels invidious to mention just one person) - to be fair, that was our universal experience in Vietnam. The “basic” room we had was superb, Tourane 20. Very large. A super-comfortable chair and footstall, sofa, great bed, lovely huge bathroom with outside shower. Friendly geckos and even a butterfly lizard near the hotel sunbeds. Very good breakfast. In general in Vietnam we found the better the hotel the worse the food - too westernised, when we only ever wanted local Vietnamese dishes. Compared to the Tam Coc Garden near Ninh Binh and the Ana Mandara Dalat, the food was better here. We hired a moped for 7 days and pootled around the island, did a couple of walks, visited a few different beaches. It’s a slow down and sink into place for people who like nature.

This place is gorgeous. The villas are set out in the style of a French colonial village surrounded by forest, gardens and lily ponds and with immediate access to the beach. Spacious, cool airy spaces with mosquito nets over super-comfy beds, every amenity, back and front verandahs for sitting out. Birdlife, black squirrels, Tokay geckos and Butterfly lizards abound. The public spaces - reception, restaurant, beach bar and pool bar as well as guest villas are beautifully designed and furnished with the owner's fabulous collection of Indochine Art Deco furniture and objects. It's all serene, elegant, a joy to be around. The swimming pool is also very beautiful, both to swim in and laze by. It has a Happy Hour with proper cocktails. As an added bonus the hotel gives you instant access to the easy 90 minute hike along the beach and over the hills on a National Parks trail to Dam Tre Bay with excellent snorkelling. Breakfasts were all superb; dinner varied a bit - excellent the first night, good the 2nd and 3rd, but service was invariably first class and drinks including wine are reasonably priced. General service is solicitous and caring without being overbearing. We stayed here for 3 nights after 3 at Six Senses. Poulo is not only a fraction of the price but we very much preferred it. We wished that for the Big Treat part of the trip (it was my birthday) we had spent the money at Amanoi South of Nha Trang rather than at Six Senses. Much more sympa. We also explored The Secret in town and the Orson - Poulo is the one to go for.

The philosophy of Poulo Condor with luxury service while being fully immersed in the island environment. Great rooms, well attended and clean (twice a day) Luxury accommodation in the jungle and very close to the beach. Great attention to the environment - not a single plastic container around. Staff very kind and caring. Good breath of choice for food and good quality. Great drinks. Great accommodation and services offered (scooter rental, airport shuttle, snorkeling gear, entertainment room) Low touch/impact approach. Very queiet. Great maintenance of gardens, streets, and all areas around: the staff works very hard to keep the jungle at bay and the beach clean. Very close to Đi Đầm Trầu beach (beautiful!) Scooters are great to get around in the island.

+ welcoming Drink, refreshing towl and massage during check-in 😍 + wonderful, helpful staff + beautiful hotel grounds + clean beach in front of the hotel, almost lonesome beach, nice Long Beach Walks + everything was super easy from check-in to organizing/booking treatments, motorbikes etc + amazing breakfast: lots of different options in drinks (coffee, cappuccino, Vietnamese coffee etc)!and food (international and local) to choose from + room service twice a day (if you like to) + free coffee, tea and of course water in your room everyday (you can make your own Vietnamese drip with sweetened milk 😊)
